The Game -- The Good, Bad & Ugly

I was a little hesitant to watch the first episode of the new season of The Game. I had heard so much about it that I wanted to delete the saved episode and simply remember the show that I once loved and remembered.  However one thing about me is despite what other people say about a movie, show or person, I LOVE to form my own opinion. I dont follow the majority. What the majority loves, I usually hate. What the majority hates, I usually love. Hey Im strange like that :) So I finally watched the premiere, a week later. I went in with butterflies in my stomach....can you believe it? Was this a highlight in MY life OR was it simply a television show? You would've thought the first one based on how I was acting lol. So here is MY review of The Game...enjoy and add your comments :)

The GOOD:
The writers and producers certainly did not hold back. They hit you in the stomach with the "drama" from the get go. There was so much packed into the first storyline and I found myself biting my lip anticipating what was going to happen next. Derwin & Melanie(despite her hair which I hated) were excellent as usual. To be honest, Mel & Derwin are the two characters that saved the show for me. They are also the two characters who, despite moving into another house and having a different status, remained the same. You know what you're going to get from Derwin and Melanie when you watch an episode of The Game. You know Mel is going to be paranoid, selfish and a little crazy. You know Derwin is going to be an overall good guy and a little gullible when it comes to Mel. I'm glad that despite changing the entire show around, the writers left that aspect in tat. Some have commented that Mel should not be as paranoid as she was in the first 3 seasons because she's married. My response AND? Mel is the same Mel that she's always been and I for one am happy for that little bit of consistency. I would have enjoyed seeing the quirky Derwin. That was the Derwin that I loved. His naivete was refreshing and funny.  I still crack up at his fingers in the face dance and whenever I am being silly I imitate it.

The BAD:
I like so many of you LOVED The Game. I loved everything about it(storylines, actors, jokes) prior to the CW giving it the boot. When it was announced that BET would be taking over I was worried. I was worried because hell it was BET and because the last season of The Game was disappointing. I wanted The Game back but I wanted The Game that I loved back, not the crap that we were forced to endure the last season. Well  I didnt get my wish. The writers and Mara Brock picked up where they left off two years ago with turning the show into a drama. My question is WHYYYYYY?????? The Game that I fell in love with was a comedy. A great comedy at that. Why reinvent the wheel???? Follow the process that lead to you having millions of fans, the process that lead to those fans petitioning for a return, the process that lead to all of your success. I was not feeling the drama aspect. I probably laughed twice and this is a show that use to have me rolling on the floor. Character development was a major problem for me as well. You took characters that we LOVED and in some ways turned them into characters that I myself am going to HATE. Friendly, lighthearted, weak Kelly is now a Rihanna wanna be. Why? And who in the hell is styling her? Medschool Melanie is now a housewife? Why? We've watched Mel struggle for three years to become a doctor and now all of a sudden she's thrown it away to be a "glamourous" NFL wife? That's not Mel. Brittany? I know its 2 years later but what the hell happened to Brit-Brat????? Its been two years so you're telling me that couldnt use the REAL Brit brat? I know she's aged...hell I've aged since the show left the cw. Speaking of character development what's up with the portrayal of Janay? Now everyone knows I am #TeamJanay! I feel as if Janay did nothing wrong in the previous episodes and I really cannot understand why women have such a hatred for the girl. However this season they have me giving Janay the side eye. Did she really have to go out and get the same purse as Melanie? Like really. Was that called for? Another ugly, Malik. Now we all know that Malik is arrogant, ignorant and promiscuous but they really are not doing him justice this season. Despite all of his flaws Malik was still a character that I liked. I could always depend on him for a good laugh. Not anymore. They have made him even more arrogant, even more ignorant(can you believe it) and even more promiscuous. What I cant understand is how Malik would stoop so low and sleep with Tee Tee's woman when this is the same Malik who refused to sleep with Melanie on principle alone. Dang, he's changed that much in 2 years or have the writers forgotten about their characters? And I know some of you are going to bite my head off but I prefer Tee Tee has Malik's side kick. Thats the Tee Tee that we have grown to love. His sarcastic remarks mixed with Malik's ignorant comments would have me rolling. Now that's gone and we're suppose to laugh because he has a chicken truck? Hmmmm oh right, we're no longer suppose to laugh because this is now a "drama" I get it. Can we have drama and Sunbeams or is that asking too much? I loved the Sunbeam meetings with the drunk Kelly...are we going to see that? Are we going to see the football players interacting with each other because I personally loved that too? And my last question, WHERE IN THE HELL IS IRV??????? Now I know he rubbed many the wrong way but Irv was my man, fifty grand. Irv was hilarious. Cmon...tell me you didnt laugh when he started singing Rihanna's Take a Bow. That was hilarious! Is he gone too?

The UGLY:
I could've just stayed with the good and the bad but when it came to the Tasha Mack character, it became downright UGLY. Chilllddd I dont even know where I should begin on this foolishness. *sighs*  First of all, we KNOW Tasha is hood. That is the thing that we loved about her but its like the writers decided "Hell we're going to BET, lets really do it up" FAIL writers. HUGE FAIL. We're suppose to believe that Tasha Mack is a big time agent representing the best NFL clients in the world YET she walks down a busy street smoking black and milds......black and milds yall. That was unbelieveable and awkward. Then this same hood Tasha, who is known for knowing Pookie from Virginia and carrying a gun, is afraid of Kelly. Kelly? The weak white chick from before? Now I know Kelly knocked Tasha's azz out on the season finale but hell Serena punked her azz in front of all of the Sunbeams and she still represented with Pookie in Latrell's house when she went to rescue Malik's sister. I just refuse to believe that Tasha is now this super "hood" chick but she's scary as hell. Make up your mind. Is she "bad" or not because she cant be both. While I'm on Tasha....why do they have her dating Terrance from 106 and Park? Better question, WHY IN THE HELL IS TERRANCE J ON HERE???? When BET got the show was there a clause that said BET personnel had to be a part of it? I just did not get that. I dont know if he's a bad actor or not because all I saw when I saw him was 106 and Park and pure corniness. His "love" scenes with Tasha made me wanna puke. More importantly, what happened to Rick Fox? Weren't they suppose to get engaged? If they are not going to do right by Tasha, I'd prefer they write her azz off the show. And speaking of off the show, can we please stop with the bootleg cameos. I mean Sheree? Seriously? I know her part was brief and if you blinked you would've missed her but seriously she never should've had a part. I know we're at BET....I know that....but it seems like the writers are trying to constantly throw it up in our face and remind us of that fact. Just put out a great show....is that asking too much? If it is then I'd prefer that you take it off. Thanks!

Grade: C
Despite all that Ive said about the show, I didnt vomit and I didnt turn the channel so I can safely say that I will be watching it on Tuesday nights. Its the first episode and I'm willing to work with it but there is room for improvement. I wont say I hated it because I didnt but I want say I loved it either.
